Artists Who Want(ed) To Change The World

We’ll explore the big themes: the environment and its destruction, identity politics, racism, migration, the creation of wealth, war, poverty, surveillance, and so on through a host of different artists navigating their societies. Some want(ed) to build utopias or bring the existing systems crashing down; some drew attention to current problems like alcoholism or prescription opoid addiction; some found their livelihoods or lives were in danger. From Brueghel, Hogarth, Vigee Le Brun, Courbet, Rosa Bonheur, and others to contemporary provocateurs like Sarah Maple.
