The glamorous French Riviera made fashionable by F. Scott Fitzgerald and his friends has been both home and inspiration to several modern artists including Picasso, Matisse, Leger, and Chagall.
Discover these and other modern masters in a series of museums including the Matisse Museum; the Chagall Museum; Nice’s Musée d’Art Moderne et d’Art Contemporain with its excellent collection of post-war art including that of Yves Klein and Nikki de St. Phalle; the Maeght Foundation at St-Paul-de-Vence; and former Roman fort Chateau Grimaldi in Antibes where Picasso spent two months. Visit Matisse’s 'masterpiece' - the stunning Dominican Chapelle du Rosaire.
See also how modern collector Béatrice Ephrussi de Rothschild (1864-1934) lived at the exquisite Villa Ephrussi de Rothschild, a mansion set in picturesque gardens at Saint-Jean-Cap-Ferrat with a collection that includes Meissen porcelain, Boucher tapestry, and Fragonard works.
Note: there will be less walking than usual on this tour as we will have a coach for two days. To keep costs low, we will take 14 on this trip.
