The glamorous French Riviera made fashionable by F. Scott Fitzgerald and his friends has been both home and inspiration to several modern artists including Picasso, Matisse, Leger, Cocteau, and Chagall.
Discover these and other modern masters in a series of museums including the Matisse Museum; the Chagall Museum; the Maeght Foundation at St-Paul-de-Vence; the former Roman fort Chateau Grimaldi in Antibes where Picasso spent two months; the Leger museum in Biot; the Bastion in Menton for Cocteau; and at St Tropez, the Musée de l’Annonciade (Bonnard, Braque, Maillol, Matisse and Signac) in the former chapel of Pénitents Blancs. Visit Matisse’s 'masterpiece' - the stunning Dominican Chapelle du Rosaire in Vence and Cocteau's chapel in Villefranche. In 2026, with the addition of FAM a private museum dedicated to celebrating women in the arts and Bonnard's museum.
We'll also see how modern collector Béatrice Ephrussi de Rothschild (1864-1934) lived at the exquisite Villa Ephrussi de Rothschild, a mansion set in picturesque gardens at Saint-Jean-Cap-Ferrat with a collection that includes Meissen porcelain, Boucher tapestry, and Fragonard works; the unique Villa Kerylos; and the newly restored renowned Eileen Gray Modernist villa E-1027.
Note: there will be less walking than usual on this tour as we will have a coach.
