Venice Biennale May 2026

The Biennale is back!  The 61st Biennale will open in May curated by the late Koyo Kouoh. Titled In Minor Keys, it will be "an exhibition that invites listening to the persistent signals of earth and life, connecting to soul frequencies. If in music, the minor keys are often associated with strangeness, melancholy, and sorrow, here their joy, solace, hope, and transcendence manifest as well." The allegory of the minor key in music will be used to create a space for quiet resistance through contemporary art. The exhibition is envisioned as a sensory experience.

With the UK represented by Lubaina Himid, Sung Tieu and Henrike Naumann in the German pavilion, Isabel Nolan in the Irish, and a question mark over the US pavilion, it promises to be an interesting one!

We'll explore each of the main exhibition spaces (Arsenale & Giardini) and as many pavilions as we can at leisure as well as the smaller installations in churches, palazzi, bridges etc.
